Assessment Institute

What is the Assessment Institute?

The Assessment Institute is an institutional initiative designed to transform assessment and evaluation practices across programs at Sheridan. It supports a shift from traditional testing methods toward authentic, inclusive, and AI-informed assessment strategies, grounded in Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles. Our goal is to help programs design fairer, more engaging, and more relevant assessments that better reflect student learning, reduce academic integrity breaches, and build faculty confidence in modern, technology-enhanced assessment methods.

Intended Purpose and Goals

  • Redesign assessments to promote deeper learning.
  • Strengthen program consistency by aligning assessment strategies across courses.
  • Create institutional exemplars that can be shared and adapted by other programs.

Who is the Target Audience?

  • All faculty across all programs.

What Can Faculty Expect?

  • 10-hour collaborative workshop blending theory with hands-on design activities.
  • Program-level teamwork to co-create authentic assessment strategies.
